We’re out here in chilly Drumheller this morning, checking in on a natural-gas generator package we recently uncovered. This unit is a ~750 kW system built around a Caterpillar 3516 rich-burn engine running at 1200 RPM, driving a 480-volt generator. It even includes a catalyst box for projects where air-quality compliance matters.
Inside the enclosure, there’s a bit of wiring cleanup underway, and we’re in the process of installing an electric motor with a VFD on the cooler. The package also includes a master control panel and a 1600-amp, 480-volt main disconnect switch. Everything is housed in a compact CAT enclosure designed for easy lifting, hauling, and placement.
And it’s not just one unit. Right behind me is a second identical 750 kW generator, also receiving a new motor for the cooler fans along with a full top-end overhaul.
